# Getting Started with Menu Volume

## Installation

Download Menu Volume from the [Mac App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/menu-volume-system-music/id6753698645). Requires macOS 10.15 or later.

## How It Works

[Menu Volume](/menu-volume) adds a volume icon to your menu bar with two independent sliders:

- **System Volume** — controls your Mac's overall output volume
- **Music Volume** — controls Apple Music volume separately

This lets you balance music against other audio (calls, notifications, system sounds) without either one affecting the other.

## Setting Up Music Control

When you first enable the Music slider, macOS will ask permission to let Menu Volume control Apple Music. Grant this permission — it's the only one the app needs. No other data is accessed.

## Launch at Login

Enable "Launch at Login" in the app's settings so Menu Volume starts automatically with your Mac. Your preferences are saved between sessions.

## Tips

- **Balance audio**: Lower Music volume during calls while keeping system sounds at a comfortable level
- **Spotify support**: Not yet available, but planned for a future update
